Many of the best \u201caha moments\u201d come from looking at what other businesses are doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"d52a\">That way, you can learn from their experience (both wins and losses) and apply this knowledge to your own user journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"8897\">We\u2019re breaking down how to manufacture \u201caha moments\u201d for your users and what we can learn from other SaaS leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"19bd\">What\u2019s an \u201caha moment\u201d?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"baf1\">An \u201caha moment\u201d is the moment your users realize the value your product provides. Think about the last time you thought, \u201cah, so that\u2019s how this works!\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"457e\">Do you remember the first time you created an Excel formula? So, we\u2019re focusing on those types of \u201caha moments\u201d in this article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"8cc8\">How to find the \u201caha moment\u201d for your product<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"9328\">Now it\u2019s time for the million-dollar question; how do you find the \u201caha moment\u201d for your product?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"1eac\">We\u2019re pretty sure you already have some clues. You probably have some idea of the key value your product provides. For instance, think back to when Google Documents was launched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"1d22\">Before it hit the scene, it just wasn\u2019t possible to work collectively on a document in real-time unless you were in the same room. That first moment you saw your colleagues making edits on your document was the \u201caha moment.\u201d You get the idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"2ebd\">Things aren\u2019t always so obvious, though. The kinds of \u201caha moments\u201d you want to elicit will depend on the unique&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/adamfard.com\/blog\/value-proposition-canvas\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">value proposition<\/a>&nbsp;you\u2019re offering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"6a3a\">An \u201caha moment\u201d isn\u2019t necessarily a clearly defined moment in time. Sometimes, it\u2019s the combination of the small things that make the difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"8525\">Either way, there are a couple of ways to find your product\u2019s \u201caha moment\u201d for sure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"46cd\">Customer journey mapping<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"1f8e\">By itself, a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/adamfard.com\/blog\/customer-journey-templates\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">customer journey map (CJM)<\/a>&nbsp;will not tell you where drop-offs or \u201caha moments\u201d occur. It might give you some handy clues, though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"dac0\">A customer journey map is the path user goes through from a stranger to (hopefully) a brand evangelist. Get digging and see what clues you can garner from your CJM. Then, use those insights to pinpoint where your users need more help finding that \u201caha moment\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"adb6\">User interviews &amp; usability testing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"773b\">We want to start by clarifying that even though we\u2019ve grouped these two activities together, they\u2019re not the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"7d0c\">Sure, both user interviews and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/adamfard.com\/blog\/usability-testing\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">usability testing<\/a>&nbsp;entail talking to users, but there are some key differences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"cc61\">User interviews are conducted at the very early stages of product development when you aren\u2019t entirely sure what the end product is going to look like. They guide you in defining exactly what you\u2019re going to build.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"5499\">User interviews will help you understand your users\u2019 habits, priorities, and wants. After all, how else are you going to craft a valuable product and elicit an \u201caha moment\u201d?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"e7c3\">On the other hand, usability testing is less about learning&nbsp;<em>what<\/em>&nbsp;to build and more about whether you\u2019ve built it&nbsp;<em>right<\/em>. Gauging&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/adamfard.com\/blog\/saas-churn\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">churn<\/a>&nbsp;will not tell you where the \u201caha moment\u201d is but rather where it isn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"efd9\"><em>So, what do we mean when we use the term \u201cchurn\u201d?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"f79f\">Churn simply means that the user didn\u2019t see enough value in continuing to invest their time into your product. Go out of your way to talk to churned users at every opportunity. They hold a wealth of insights and could potentially unlock that \u201caha moment\u201d your product is striving for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"3881\">Conversely, tracking retention will tell you which parts of the customer journey are successfully communicating the value of your product. Understanding where your product is performing well and where customers are dropping off will go a long way to discovering that elusive \u201caha moment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"7224\">Facilitating the \u201caha\u201d moment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"659a\">You know your product is great, but how do you facilitate the \u201caha moment\u201d for your users? There are 3 ways to really showcase the value of your product to users. Let\u2019s take a closer look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1db5\">Onboarding<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"b6a6\">Eliciting the \u201caha moment\u201d is quite literally the most essential task of your&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/adamfard.com\/blog\/ux-onboarding\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">product onboarding<\/a>. Time is of the essence, so you have to show what makes your product invaluable within the least possible amount of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"1b07\">Time waits for nobody, and neither do your users. With so much market competition, you need to make sure your onboarding spotlights that lightbulb moment straight out of the gate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"aadc\">Personalization<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"ed8e\">We\u2019ll admit it. Things get tricky when you start building a product that caters to multiple user groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"4a6e\">Products with a high level of personalization satisfy a larger audience. But this can make finding the \u201caha moment\u201d a little bit more complicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"1274\">Naturally, it\u2019s pretty likely that you\u2019d have to work on different \u201caha moments\u201d depending on the value you provide to that user group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"4a07\">In a nutshell, the more personalized the product, the more different types of \u201caha moments\u201d you\u2019re going to need to curate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"db73\">Find bottlenecks (remove barriers)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"3161\">The worst thing you can do at the early stages of the customer journey is to build barricades for the users to climb over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"79e7\">We\u2019re talking endless onboarding sequences with walls of text, requesting credit card information, etc. Basically, anything that will hinder users from finding the value of your product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"55fe\">These will create bottlenecks and stop the users from ever experiencing the \u201caha moment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"1e56\">Remember, your goal is to make users\u2019 lives easier. So, don\u2019t make them jump through hoops for your product. The likelihood is that they will just find a similar product with a more effortless user experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"0499\">Examples of \u201caha moments\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"b507\">There\u2019s absolutely nothing wrong with standing on the shoulders of giants. In fact, we highly encourage it. So, with that said, here are some real-life \u201caha moment\u201d success stories. Take note.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"614c\">Honey<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"f82c\">Honey is a browser plugin that searches the internet for promo codes for your shopping. No. But it\u2019s quick, easy to use, and it fills a very real need. Plus, users get that \u201caha moment\u201d in next to no time.
